APA has promoted all four co-heads of its physical production department to partner, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned.
The department was established in August 2013 by Jay Gilbert and Gil Harari, who hailed from Paradigm, and four months later were joined by Matt Birch and Ralph Berge from Montana Artists as fellow co-heads. Other agents in the department include ex-Montana reps Brady Torgeson and Julian Savodivker, as well as Paradigm and ICM Partners alum Michael Kirschner (who now oversees the commercial and music video business), former British Film Commission and Pinewood Studios exec Andy Weltman (who joined the agency in 2016 to lead its new London office) and former marketing exec and DDA agent Danica Pupa (who joined APA’s feature and television team earlier this year). In addition, Los Angeles-based Marina Moyses and Matt DiPaolo and New York’s Anthony Marotto have been promoted to agent in the past year.
“Five years after launching our physical production department, APA has become the premiere destination for below-the-line talent worldwide, and we owe it to the leadership of these four talented visionaries,” APA president and CEO Jim Gosnell said in a statement. “Jay, Ralph, Matt and Gil have done a tremendous job of securing and maintaining our presence in this arena, and I’m very happy to reward their hard work and dedication.”
The physical production department’s roster spans 27 countries across 14 disciplines, and includes producers Rob Cowan (Aquaman), Mac Brown (The Departed, Dark Tower), Peter Heslop (The King’s Speech, Imitation Game, Phantom Thread), Bob Dohrmann (A Star Is Born, The Girl in the Spider’s Web), Guy Riedel (Creed 2), Jim Rowe (Justice League, Batman vs. Superman), Todd Williams (The Nun), Dhana Rivera Gilbert (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Tom Karnowski (The Post, Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Cherylanne Martin (The Pacific, Westworld), Scott Ferguson (The Night Of, The Normal Heart), Tom Luse (The Walking Dead), Grace Gilroy (Twilight Zone, The X-Files) and Richard Sharkey (Marco Polo, Warrior and The Pacific). It also represents directors of photography/cinematographers including Matt Jensen (Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman 1984), Adam Stone (Midnight Special, Loving) and Mathias Herndl (Genius) and costume designers including Suttirat Anne Larlab (Slumdog Millionaire), Sonu Mishra (Genius) and Hala Bahmet (This Is Us).
APA Physical Production also services international production service companies including Italy’s Cattlyea, Ireland’s Wild Atlantic, Ardmore and Troy Studios, Colombia’s Jaguar Bite, UAE/India/Malaysia’s Knockout Productions, Iceland/Norway’s True North, Serbia’s Work in Progress, the Czech Republic’s Partnership Pictures, Bulgaria’s UFO Productions, Argentina’s Tango Films and Thailand’s The Studio Park.
