Sean Astin, Celia Weston and Sara Foster are being promoted to work alongside Michael Vartan and David Cross in the indie comedy “Demoted.”
Parallel Media’s new genre arm Parallel Zide is producing the feature, which centers on two tire salesmen (Astin, Vartan) who delight in playing cruel pranks on their co-worker (Cross). When the victim unexpectedly becomes their boss, he places the humiliated duo in secretarial jobs.
Foster will play the wife of Astin’s character, who’s tricked into believing he was promoted. Weston will play the head secretary who inspires the best friends to plot their revenge.
The three Innovative Artists-repped actors are all keeping busy, with Astin in production on “Stay Cool” with Winona Ryder and Foster starring in the November MGM release “The Other End of the Line.” Longtime character actress Weston’s credits include “Junebug” and “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.”
Warren Zide will produce through his Parallel Zide shingle, and J.B. Rogers will direct from a screenplay by Dan Callahan. Ryan Lewis is executive producing the film, which begins production next month in Michigan.
