Jennifer Bell has been promoted to senior vp visual effects production at Universal.
In related news, John Swallow, who has served as head of the visual effects department since 2002, has left Universal, though he will continue to provide creative input on productions including “Hellboy II: The Golden Army,” “Cirque du Freak” and “Land of the Lost.” Swallow started with Universal in 1996 as vp production technology and moved up to executive vp production technology in 2003.
Bell, who was vp production technology, will oversee visual effects creation and production for the motion picture group. Since joining the studio in 2004, she has worked on such films as “Children of Men,” “The Bourne Ultimatum,” “American Gangster” and “Charlie Wilson’s War.”
“Jennifer is that wonderful combination of a really creative mind and an organized, disciplined, results-driven executive,” Universal president of production Donna Langley said. “As visual effects become a bigger and bigger part of nearly every movie, Jennifer’s ability to solve problems imaginatively while moving projects to completion on time and on budget makes her a critical component of our production management team.”
Bell began her career in 1988 as a freelance VFX technician on James Cameron’s “The Abyss.”
