Terry Brown has been named chief technology officer at New York-based production and post complex Mega Playground.
Brown most recently served as Technicolor’s senior vp, worldwide technology based in New York, and the native East Coaster said he opted to remain in the Big Apple when asked to move back to California. Before joining Technicolor in 2005, he spent 21 years at Laser Pacific, where he served as vp technology. At Laser Pacific, Brown helped pioneer 24p high-definition postproduction workflows, and in 2001 he shared credit for a Scientific and Technological Emmy awarded to the firm for its contributions to the creation of 24p HD technology.
As Brown comes on board at Mega Playground, he is working to complete the company’s 45,000-square-foot downtown complex, which when finished will offer a range of HD postproduction tools and services including digital intermediate color timing, Avid editing, telecine, dailies and dub services.
The company, which principally services independent features and reality TV series, also offers production offices.
“Terry has the ability to walk clients through complex procedures and clarify their options with an accessible and friendly approach that eliminates the intimidation factor,” said Eitan Hakami, founder of Mega Playground. “Having a CTO of his caliber available to advise our clients represents a unique advantage for Mega Playground.”
