TORONTO — BBC political commentator Andrew Marr and filmmakers Antony Thomsas, Ric Burns and Chris Eyre on Friday were named as headliners for the History Makers: International Summit of History and Current Affairs Producers 2008, according to organizer Achilles Media.
The event will be held in New York City from Jan. 17-19, 2008.
Documentary maker Burns (“The Civil War,” “The War”) and fellow director and producer Chris Eyre will be talk about “We Shall Remain,” a PBS film series on Native Americans during the last 300 years.
Also attending is British-based filmmaker Thomas, who will conduct a master class at History Makers 2008. He has directed and produced 40 major documentaries and dramas, including the controversial “Death of a Princess” film about events in Saudi Arabia, and is currently producing a Channel Four documentary on the Qu’ran.
The BBC’s Marr will present a master class on contemporary history.
Toronto-based Achilles Media has already announced the participation of David Frost, currently working for al-Jazeera International, as a keynote speaker. The veteran British TV host and producer is best known for memorable interviews with Richard Nixon after Watergate and Henry Kissinger.
Achilles recently expanded its history TV producers conference, formerly known as the World Congress of History Producers, to include news and current affairs programmers.
