The appeal of the Disney brand to tweens was apparent on DVD for the week ending Aug. 24, as “Camp Rock” and “Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert” debuted at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively, on the national home video sales chart.
Sandwiched in between was Fox’s “Street Kings,” which overcame a boxoffice gross of just $26.4 million to debut at No. 2 on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart — and No. 1 on Home Media Magazine’s video rental chart.
The cop thriller handily beat Sony’s horror remake “Prom Night,” which despite a boxoffice of $43.9 million bowed at No. 7 on the sales chart and No. 2 on the rental chart.
For the first time in recent memory, the eight top-selling videos were all new releases. Universal’s scored another direct-to-video success story with the sequel “The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior,” which debuted at No. 4 and sold more than 700,000 copies its first week in stores, according to the studio.
Paramount’s Season 2 set of the Showtime series “Dexter” debuted at No. 5, Universal’s Season 4 set of “House” entered the chart at No. 6 and Warner’s first-season set of “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” bowed at No. 8.
On the Blu-ray Disc sales chart, “Street Kings” debuted at No. 1, with “Connor” bowing at No. 2 and “Scorpion King 2” entering the chart at No. 3.
