Shane Carter and Neil Foster have been named co-presidents of Sony BMG Music Canada.
They succeed Lisa Zbitnew, who had been division president since September 2004. The announcement was made Friday by Tim Bowen, chief operating officer on Sony BMG Music Entertainment, to whom both will report.
“With extensive leadership experience, proven business acumen and a shared passion for the music business, Shane and Neil will make for a powerful team,” Bowen said. “I look forward to working closely with both of them as we continue to identify new opportunities for our artists and our business within the Canadian market.”
In his new role, Carter will oversee all aspects of marketing, domestic A&R and the commercial and digital operations. Foster will continue to oversee all aspects of the company’s operations, including legal and business affairs, finance, human resources, IS&T, supply chain and sales.
Carter had been senior vp marketing since July. A 20-year veteran of the entertainment business, he joined BMG in 1999 as vp marketing after six years as vp sales and marketing at PolyGram Home Video.
Foster had been GM of the division since December 2004 and played an important role in the formation of the Sony BMG joint venture. During the past 13 years, he has held a range of label operating and corporate positions including executive vp of the RCA Music Group in New York. Before that, Foster was a general management consultant with McKinsey & Co.
