HONG KONG — South Korean creature movie “Chaw” has found a welcoming home in the U.K. with leading indie distributor Optimum Releasing. The deal was signed in Toronto with sales agent Fine Cut.
The black comedy features a giant man-eating boar on a rampage through a variety of rural and industrial locations. Written and directed by Shin Jung-won, “Chaw” scored a healthy 1.8 million admissions (approx $10.8 million) on its July release in Korea through Lotte Entertainment. Creature effects were supplied by San Rafael-based Polygon Entertainment.
The picture was previously licensed throughout Asia and to Ascot Elite for German-speaking Europe. Optimum also handled the U.K. release of Fine Cut’s previous monster movie “The Host.”
