BEIJING — Wanda Cinema Circuit Corp. will be honored as Exhibitor of the Year at the annual CineAsia trade show, whose managing director Robert Sunshine will fete the Chinese theater chain on Dec. 9 in Hong Kong, at the closing night ceremony of the three-day theatrical business convention.
Wanda Cinemas is a part of the Wanda Group, a multi-pronged business that, according to a statement from CineAsia, has grown its assets to 100 billion yuan ($15 billion) since its founding in 1988, working in commercial real estate, a five-star hotel, the cultural industry, and in department stores. By the end of 2010, Wanda will have 71 cinemas with 600 screens, giving it an 18% market share, CineAsia said.
“Because of the remarkable contribution Wanda has made to cinema investment and development, it has grown to one of the largest cinema chains in China,” said Sunshine, who will present the honor in a ceremony at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong to Wanda Cinemas general manager Jerry Ye.
Beijing-based Ye is responsible for Wanda’s business development. “Through his earnest and rigorous working style and outstanding management capability, he has made a remarkable contribution to the Group’s rapid development,” CineAsia said in a statement from New York.
CineAsia 2010 will take place from Dec. 7-9, 2010 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center and will feature screenings of upcoming Asian and major Hollywood films and industry seminars and the CineAsia Trade Show. CineAsia is produced by Prometheus Global Media, owner of The Hollywood Reporter.
