Bruce Norris‘ play Clybourne Park, which examines race relations in the 1950s and modern-day Chicago, has won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for drama.
Detroit by Lisa D’Amour and A Free Man of Color by John Guare were named finalists.
The Pulitzer panel called Clybourne Park “a powerful work whose memorable characters speak in witty and perceptive ways to America’s sometimes toxic struggle with race and class consciousness.”
Norris will receive $10,000 as his prize.
Last year’s prize went to the musical Next to Normal.
