Universal has won an appeal to the Classification and Ratings Appeals Board, knocking down the R rating originally given to “Couples Retreat” to a PG-13.
The comedy about four couples vacationing on a tropical island, directed by Peter Billingsley and starring Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau, will be released Oct. 9.
The ratings board had assigned the movie an R rating for “some sexual material.”
Vaughn and Scott Stuber, the film’s producers, represented the film at the appeals hearing, where the ratings board was represented by Chairman Joan Graves.
