An ESPN reality series beginning next month will follow NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr.
“Dale Jr. — Shifting Gears” deals with Earnhardt moving from his late father’s Dale Earnhardt Inc. to Hendrick Motorsports. It is produced by Hammerhead Entertainment, part of Jr. Motorsports and owned by Earnhardt Jr. Hammerhead and ESPN have an exclusive multimedia accord, ESPN said Thursday.
The five-part series kicks off at 7 p.m. Feb. 8 on ESPN2. It will delve into the reasons why Earnhardt left Dale Earnhardt Inc. and what has happened since in what Earnhardt said is “the biggest career decision I’ve ever made.”
Three episodes will air before the Daytona 500 in February, with the final two airing in primetime on ESPN in July before the Allstate 400, the first NASCAR Sprint Cup telecast live on ESPN.
