Premiere Radio Networks, a unit of Clear Channel Communications, said Monday that it has renewed its contract with syndicated radio host Glenn Beck, heard on nearly 300 radio stations. Beck hosts the third-highest-rated radio talk show in America, according to the Premiere Radio Research/Arbitron Nationwide spring 2007 data. Beck, who has been with Premiere since 2002, will get a reported $50 million over five years through salary and profit sharing.
Apax isn’t in running for ITV
Private-equity firm Apax Partners is not mulling a bid for U.K. broadcaster ITV, which has seen its stock decline, people familiar with the situation said Monday, contrary to previous media reports. ITV and Apax declined comment. ITV shares had gained more than 3% on Monday following the report by the Financial Mail.
EA’s studio pickups cleared
Antitrust regulators have cleared Electronic Arts’ $775 million purchase of two software studios from private-equity fund Elevation Partners, a government agency said Monday. Video game publisher EA said last month that it agreed to purchase VG Holding, parent of BioWare and Pandemic Studios.
Newspaper circulation slides 2.6%
Circulation fell 2.6% at major U.S. daily newspapers in the six months ending in September, according to figures released Monday. USA Today, published by Gannett, kept its place as the largest daily paper in the country and also chalked up a 1% gain in average daily circulation to 2,293,137 for the frame, according to preliminary figures filed with the Audit Bureau of Circulations. The Wall Street Journal remained No. 2 with 2,011,882, down 1.5%. The New York Times was third with 1,037,828, down 4.5%.
