The carriage battle between Fox and Cablevision has ended, but another one is in full gear.
DirecTV has dropped Comcast-owned G4, which targets young guys by featuring video games and hot girls, from its lineup.
As the Los Angeles Times points out, the move was not a surprise. Last month, DirecTV told Comcast it indented to drop the channel once their deal expired at the end of September. As the nation’s largest cable operator, Comcast was, however, able to convince them to continue airing G4 as they negotiated a new deal.
In its decision to drop G4, DirecTV cites low viewer interest. The broadcaster’s chief, Mike White, has said he is looking for ways to cut programming costs by discontinuing less popular channels.
Comcast says G4’s ratings have been increasing. According to the Times, G4 cost DirecTV approximately five cents per subscriber per month.
DirecTV and Comcast last fought in 2009, when DirecTV dropped Versus, Comcast’s sports channel, for seven months.
