Disney Channel has given a pilot order to a live-action sitcom starring recording artists Jonas Brothers.
The as-yet-untitled project, described as “Austin Powers” meets “The Monkees” meets “Get Smart,” stars 19-year-old Kevin Jonas, 17-year-old Joseph Jonas and 14-year-old Nick Jonas as rock stars who are undercover spies. The network confirmed Tuesday that the pilot is shooting in June in Los Angeles.
The pilot was written by “Shrek” writer Roger Schulman and “Friends” executive producer Michael Curtis. Helmer Jeremiah Chechik, whose credits include “The Avengers,” “Benny & Joon” and “Christmas Vacation,” is set to direct.
It is understood that Disney Channel is high on the project and the brothers themselves, who already have a relationship with the Walt Disney Co. as they signed with the company’s Hollywood Records late last year.
The Jonas Brothers, New Jersey natives who now live in Los Angeles, are set to release their second album in August. Their debut album, “It’s About Time,” was released in August by Columbia Records. A music video for their track “Year 3000” began rotating on Disney Channel in January, boosting album sales by 69% during the week of Jan. 28 and another 148% the following week.
The brothers also are set to guest-star on an upcoming episode of Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana.”
The brothers are repped by CAA and managed by Philip McIntyre, Kevin Jonas and Johnny Wright. Their attorneys are Rob Cohen and John Adams of Caroll, Guido and Groffman Llp.
Curtis is repped by CAA and managed by Jonathan Baruch at Relevant Entertainment. He is repped by the law firm of Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman & Warren.
