HONG KONG — Television veteran Rob Gilby has been hired as senior vp and managing director of Disney-ABC International Television, Asia-Pacific, the company said late Monday.
“Disney, which has consistently provided exciting and challenging career opportunities, is ideally placed as the leading branded global entertainment company to respond to the exciting opportunities in the Asia region,” Gilby said.
In the new position, Gilby will have a key role in the distribution of content from the Walt Disney Co. on all platforms — terrestrial, cable, satellite, IPTV, PPV, VOD, mobile, broadband, etc. — across Asia (excluding Japan).
Before the appointment, Gilby held the position of managing director, Disney Channel U.K., Scandinavia & Emerging Markets. A replacement has not yet been decided.
“Rob is the ideal person to continue to build our company’s media business in the Asia Pacific region given his past media experience in the area and his recent success with our Disney Channel businesses in England, Scandinavia, Poland and South Africa,” said Ben Pyne, president of global distribution, Disney-ABC Worldwide Television & Disney Media Networks.
Gilby worked at Turner Entertainment Networks Asia before his stint at Disney. He also worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Entertainment & Media group in London, Hong Kong and Tokyo.
