Disney on Monday announced that its Hong Kong park would close a third time due to restrictions put in place because of an uptick in novel coronavirus cases.
The park closed initially on Jan. 26 and reopened in June. It closed again in July and then reopened in September. It was the second Disney property to reopen after Shanghai Disneyland, which first shuttered in January because of the pandemic.
The Hong Kong park will close on Dec. 2. There is no date for when it may reopen. Currently, Disneyland Paris and Disneyland Resort in Southern California are closed. Walt Disney World in Florida, Shanghai Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Resort remains open.
In SoCal, Downtown Disney and a portion of California Adventure is open for shopping and outdoor dining. The major theme parks have been locked in a bitter stalemate with the state over reopening for months.
Officials with the parks have floated a lawsuit, but nothing has been filed. Gov. Gavin Newsom recently dealt another blow to any plans for theme parks reopening when he announced that all counties in SoCal would revert to the most strict pandemic tier amid cases again skyrocketing in the state.
