Kevin Brockman, executive vp global communications for Disney/ABC Television Group, has joined Second Stage Theater’s board of directors.
Brockman makes the move as the nonprofit theater group, which produced the Broadway hit Dear Evan Hansen, kicks off its inaugural Broadway season with the Kenneth Lonergan play Lobby Hero, starring Chris Evans and Michael Cera. It will begin performances in March 2018 at the newly renovated Helen Hayes Theater.
“We are thrilled to welcome Kevin to the Second Stage board of directors,” said Second Stage Theater’s artistic director Carole Rothman. “His years of expertise and his many professional relationships in the entertainment industry will be a very welcome asset to our board, especially as we embark on our first Broadway season.”
“I started my career in theatrical publicity, so joining the board of Second Stage feels a bit like coming home,” said Brockman. “I’m honored to be a part of this storied organization and to bring my experience to bear on its behalf.”
Second Stage’s first Broadway season will also include Young Jean Lee’s play Straight White Men, directed by Anna D. Shapiro and opening in July 2018; and new works from Lee, Lynn Nottage, Paula Vogel, Jon Robin Baitz, Will Eno and Lisa Kron, co-commissioned with Los Angeles’ Center Theatre Group. Additional co-commissions for Broadway will include a new play from Bess Wohl in partnership with the Williamstown Theatre Festival and new works from Lydia R. Diamond and Dominique Morisseau, being developed with Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theatre Co.
Brockman joined Disney in 1997 and has been in his current position since 2008.
