AMSTERDAM — Dutch audiences reduced their TV viewing by a full 10 minutes per day during 2007. Last year, the average time per day spent in front of the little screen was three hours and six minutes — down 10 minutes from 2006, industry body Stichting Kijk Onderzoek said Wednesday.
The dip is attributed to the warm weather during 2007 and the changing habits of the growing number of elderly, educated viewers.
The public broadcasters remained market leaders in the territory with a 33.2% share (34% in 2006). The top commercial TV station was RTL Nederland with 26.5%, a slight rise over 2006 (25.9%).
The program with the most viewers in 2007 was Dutch broadcaster NOS’ coverage of the award ceremony of the World Championship Speed-skating finals on Feb. 11. About 3.4 million viewers tuned in for the event.
