U.S. buyers will be lining up to check out Florian Gallenberger‘s Colonia, the South American drama starring Emma Watson and Daniel Bruhl, when the film has its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on Sept. 13.
But global buyers already have pounced on the title, betting on Watson and Bruhl’s star power. The movie, loosely based? on real events during the Pinochet dictatorship in Chile, has Watson’s character going undercover in a religious cult to rescue her kidnapped boyfriend (Bruhl).
Beta Cinema, which is handling world sales, is in final negotiations on an international deal that will see a single studio take multiple territories for Colonia, giving the title a major global push.
Beta also has closed separate deals for the picture in multiple international territories, including with Good Films in Italy, NEW in South Korea and Shooting Stars for the Middle East.
