Liam Neeson is bringing his Irish lilt to the new role-playing video game “Fallout 3” from publisher Bethesda Softworks.
Neeson will voice the character of the player’s father in the latest edition of the popular franchise. The game is expected to come out for PC and next-generation consoles, but no specific platforms or release date have been announced. Bethesda acquired the “Fallout” license from Interplay.
“Fallout 3” is set in a violent postapocalyptic world filled with mutants, radiation and gang warfare. The game has been a PC mainstay over the years and had a PlayStation 2 and Xbox spinoff, “Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel,” in 2004.
Bethesda is best known for its current release, “Oblivion: The Elder Scrolls IV,” which recently shipped on PlayStation 3 and has been a top seller on Xbox 360 and PC since the fall. That game, released in March 2006, features the voice talent of Patrick Stewart, Lynda Carter, Sean Bean and Terence Stamp.
Todd Howard, executive producer of “Fallout 3,” said Neeson’s role was written with the actor in mind and provides the dramatic tone for the game.
“It’s been a pleasure bringing the father to life and working with the wonderfully talented people at Bethesda on ‘Fallout 3,’ ” Neeson said. “I hope the fans of the franchise and the game will be excited by the results.”
Neeson most recently worked on Electronic Arts and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s “Batman Begins” game, which featured his likeness and voice acting, along with the majority of the film cast.
Last year, Bethesda worked with Johnny Depp on the original game “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Jack Sparrow,” which shipped for PC and PS2 in conjunction with the theatrical “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.”
