GOTHAM FETES CRUZ
Penelope Cruz will receive a tribute at the 18th annual Gotham Awards. Cruz will appear Dec. 2 at Manhattan’s Cipriani Wall Street to accept the career achievement honor. The Spanish actress currently stars in two English-language productions: Isabel Coixet’s “Elegy” for Samuel Goldwyn Films and Woody Allen’s “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” for MGM/Weinstein Co. A full list of Gotham Award nominees will be unveiled Oct. 20.
YFG UPS BELL
Elizabeth Bell has been promoted to senior vp and general counsel of the Yari Film Group. She will continue to report to YFG senior exec vp and COO Bill Immerman. Gerald Gottesman and C.J. Vranca are also joining the firm’s business and legal affairs department.
SCHIFRIN SCORES NOD
Composer Lalo Schifrin will be receive a lifetime achievement award at the the 14th annual Temecula Valley International Film & Music Festival. He will be presented with the prize at a black-tie gala Sept. 21 on the fest’s closing night at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, Calif.
SCRIBES PEN PRIZES
Matt Umbarger of Irvine, Calif., took first place in the 10th annual Scriptapalooza screenwriting competition for his screenplay “The Terminals.” Damian Lahey and Ian Ogden of Brooklyn took second for “Child in the Dark,” while Los Angeles’ Heather Regnier was third for “Sober Living.”
