GOLDMAN, LUPICA ON THE SAME PAGE
Screenwriter William Goldman and sportswriter Mike Lupica are combining forces for the first time on a young adult novel. The Philomel Books release will center on a boy who discovers he has secret powers when family tensions push them to the surface. In addition to his New York Daily News sportswriting, Lupica has written several young adult best-sellers. Goldman’s novel “The Princess Bride,” which he adapted for the screen, has sold 3 million copies.
Halo-8 Entertainment is launching its “8 Films to Kill For: Halo-ween Fest” horror series with “Slumber Party Slaughterhouse: The Game,” an interactive in-theater event where audiences answer movie trivia questions. Hollywood’s Engine Theatre will host a Halo-ween Fest from Oct. 23-29, with additional games in New York, Philadelphia, Austin, Baltimore and other cities in October.
JOHNSON TO UTA
Literary manager Doug Johnson, who has been with management/production company Management 360 since 2002, has joined UTA as an agent in the motion picture literary department. Johnson, a producer on “My Best Friend’s Girl,” built a client roster that included David Arquette, writer Jim Hecht, writer-producer Josh Safran and actress-writer Lorene Scafaria, among others.
‘BALLOON’ TOPS ADG
Elissa Down won top honors at the Australian Directors Guild Awards over the weekend for “The Black Balloon,” about a family dealing with an autistic child. Tom Murray won the ADG award for best feature documentary director for “In My Father’s Country.”
LUCASFILM UPS ANDERMAN
Lucasfilm has appointed 10-year company veteran David Anderman as general counsel. He will oversee all business affairs and legal issues for Lucasfilm.
