CANNES — Hammer Films is finally taking its horror into the third dimension.
The British home of Dracula and Frankenstein’s monster is partnering with Exclusive Media Group and Alliance Films to bring its next creeper, “The Woman in Black,” to theaters in 3D for the first time. James Watkins (“Eden Lake”) is directing the ghost story, which Alliance will distribute in the U.K., Spain and Canada.
Alliance is co-financing with Exclusive, which is handling worldwide sales on the project at Cannes. Production of the film is scheduled for the fall.

“The Woman in Black 3D” follows a young lawyer as he travels to a remote village to sort out a recently deceased client’s papers and begins to see an eerie woman dressed in black wandering the isolated house. “Kick-Ass” co-writer Jane Goldman is adapting the Susan Hill novel, which was also adapted into a stage play that has been performed at the West End’s Fortune Theatre since 1989.

Simon Oakes is producing for Exclusive’s Hammer Films label along with Richard Jackson at Talisman Films. Exclusive co-chairmen Nigel Sinclair and Guy East and Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee are executive producers.
“Because of the tremendous pedigree of those involved, the interest in this project has been enormous for us from very early on, and we are now thrilled to have Alliance onboard as a partner,” East said. “The recent decision to shoot the film in 3D will create a genuinely immersive experience for the audience.”
As part of its recent invigoration by Exclusive, Hammer has several high-profile projects in postproduction, including “The Resident,” starring Hilary Swank, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Christopher Lee; and the “Let the Right One In” remake “Let Me In,” from writer-director Matt Reeves (“Cloverfield”), which Overture will release in October.
Exclusive additionally has Peter Weir’s “The Way Back,” starring Ed Harris, Saoirse Ronan, Mark Strong and Colin Farrell, in post.
