Woody Harrelson will head the international cast of Brad Anderson’s contemporary crime thriller “Trans-Siberian,” Spanish production house Filmax said Thursday.
British actress Samantha Morton will play Harrelson’s wife, with Kate Mara and Spanish heartthrob Eduardo Noriega playing another couple and Ben Kingsley rounding out the cast as a Russian police officer hot on the trail of the two couples.
The story focuses on an American couple that travels on the famous Trans-Siberian train from China to Moscow and encounters another couple. What seems to be a simple train journey soon turns into a thrilling chase full of deception and murder as it becomes clear that not everybody is who they seem.
A co-production between Spanish ministudio Filmax and Germany’s Universum Film GmbH, “Trans-Siberian” is the follow-up to Anderson’s Spanish production “The Machinist,” which earned €1.6 million at the Spanish boxoffice and more than a $1 million in the U.S. while reaping accolades at international film festivals for Christian Bale’s lead performance.
The film begins shooting Dec. 11 in Beijing, Russia and Lithuania.
Harrelson, repped by CAA, is also on tap to star alongside Will Ferrell in Kent Alterman’s “Semi-Pro” for New Line. His upcoming titles also include Paul Schrader’s “The Walker,” the Coen brothers’ “No Country for Old Men” and Zak Penn’s “The Grand.”
