Rutger Hauer and Carice van Houten will lead the cast of Oscar-nominated director Paula van der Oest’s latest film, the biopic “Smoke and Ochre.”
German actor Sebastian Koch, the real life partner of Van Houten, whom she met on the set of “Black Book,” also will join the cast.
The film, to be shot in the second half of 2008, deals with the life of South African poet Ingrid Jonker, who committed suicide near Capetown in 1965. Jonker was a fierce critic of censorship during apartheid.
For Hauer, it will be his third recent acting job in the Netherlands. He recently finished shooting a cameo role for “Bride Flight” by Ben Sombogaart (“Twin Sisters”) and will lend his voice to the experimental feature “Oogver-blindend” by Cyrus Frisch.
