Strand Releasing has acquired U.S. rights to Fatih Akin’s “The Edge of Heaven,” this year’s German entry in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ foreign-language film category.
“Heaven,” starring Turkish actor Tuncel Kurtiz and German actress Hanna Schygulla, revolves around four Turks and two Germans as they intersect.
The film premiered at May’s Festival de Cannes, where it won the best screenplay award.
The deal was negotiated by Strand’s Jon Gerrans and the Match Factory’s Michael Weber. Strand released Akin’s “Head-On” and “Crossing the Bridge.”
