ENGAGEMENTS: Drew Barrymore-Will Kopelman: Drew Barrymore became engaged to art consultant Will Kopelman in Sun Valley, Idaho, during a 10-day holiday vacation. The two have been dating for nearly a year.
Rani Raad, senior vp at Turner International, and Reme Al-Saiegh, director of CNN International ad sales, became engaged Dec. 29 in New York. The surprise evening proposal happened in Central Park via flash mob as 100 strangers sang Bruno Mars’ “Marry You,” which was recast as “Reme, Marry You.” The London-based couple plan to wed in Lebanon in late summer or early fall.
WEDDINGS
Cinematographer Kramer Morgenthau (Boardwalk Empire, Too Big to Fail) wed marketing specialist Tracy Fleischman Dec. 18 in L.A. The couple exchanged vows in front of 150 guests at downtown’s Vibiana in a traditional Jewish ceremony. The newlyweds honeymooned in Indonesia.

Photographer Eve Arnold, renowned for her bold and diverse images of celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe and of the nonfamous found in locations from a South African shantytown to a Havana brothel, died Jan. 4 in London. Arnold, a photographer on 40 movie sets, was 99.
Frederica Sagor Maas, a pioneering female screenwriter who scored her first big success with The Plastic Age, a smash hit for “It” girl Clara Bow in 1925, died Jan. 5 in the San Diego suburb of La Mesa, Calif. She was 111.
Richard Alf, a bookstore owner and a co-founder of San Diego’s Comic-Con convention, died Jan. 4 of pancreatic cancer. He was 59.
