DEATHS
Morgan Paull, a veteran character actor who had a memorable turn in the 1982 classic Blade Runner, died July 17 at his home in Ashland, Ore. He was 67.
Emmy-nominated producer Lee Guthrie, the mother of Sean Young and Humanitas Prize executive director Cathleen Young, died July 19 in Santa Monica. She was 76.
Frank Pierson 1925-2012
The writer-director, who won an Academy award for best original screenplay for 1975’s Dog Day Afternoon and was nominated in the adapted screenplay category for 1965’s Cat Ballou and 1967’s Cool Hand Luke, died July 23 of natural causes in Los Angeles. Pierson, who also was nominated for three directing Emmys and served as president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences from 2001 to 2005, was 87.
