Hugo Lindgren, formerly The New York Times Magazine editor in chief, has been named acting editor of The Hollywood Reporter. Janice Min, the newly named co-president and chief creative officer of the Entertainment Group of Guggenheim Media, announced the news Friday.
For three years, Lindgren served as top editor for the Times magazine. Previously, he was deputy editor of Bloomberg Businessweek and editorial director of New York magazine under Adam Moss. Lindgren will serve as THR‘s acting editor for the next three months, reporting to Min and relocating to Los Angeles on Jan. 27.
The news follows the announcement of Min’s expanded duties, which include oversight of Billboard‘s editorial content in addition to The Hollywood Reporter. In her efforts at Billboard, she will be joined by The Hollywood Reporter‘s executive editor Matthew Belloni, creative director Shanti Marlar, and photo and video director Jennifer Laski.

The full memo to The Hollywood Reporter staff is below.
Dear Staff:
In case you missed the meeting this morning, I wanted to introduce you to our newest addition here, Hugo Lindgren. I am thrilled to tell you that Hugo is joining The Hollywood Reporter as acting editor while a team including executive editor Matt Belloni, creative director Shanti Marlar and photo and video director Jennifer Laski get going working on Billboard with me. Hugo will be serving in my stead day-to-day (with me always available and in the loop…perhaps just not ticking off every caption) for the next three months.
Hugo will be relocating to LA from the polar vortex of New York City for three months beginning January 27. Hugo has spent a career editing and producing some of the most impressive weekly publications in the world. He most recently was the editor in chief of the New York Times Magazine for three years; prior to that he was the deputy editor of Bloomberg Businessweek and the editorial director of New York magazine under Adam Moss.
Though the words “New York” appear frequently in the titles of the publications where he has served, don’t worry. He knows his way around Hollywood. In his own words, “My claim to fame in Hollywood is that my name was once mentioned in an episode of Friends. My favorite movie changes all the time. Right now, I’d probably have to say Frozen. Like everybody, I binge-watch television, most recently the excellent French crime show Spiral.” In terms of a quick bio, he grew up in New York City, graduated from Duke University and is married to the writer Sarah Bernard. They have 7-year-old twin daughters.
He will be here sitting in John Amato’s office today and Monday to observe our close, while getting to know us and how we do things. No doubt he will be able to throw in some great ideas of his own along the way during his time with us. I feel very lucky to have him on board, and am certain you will feel the same as well.
Please make Hugo feel welcome and say hello!
Best,
Janice
