As the Cannes Film Festival comes to a close, a handful of films have found homes with three different indie distributors via last minute acquisitions.
IFC Films acquired U.S. rights to director Bertrand Tavernier’s “The Princess of Montpensier,” indie cult helmer Gregg Araki’s “Kaboom” and Mexican filmmaker Jorge Michel Grau’s directorial debut “We Are What We Are.”

Additionally, Sony Pictures Classics acquired U.S., Australia and New Zealand rights to the French film, “Of Gods & Men” while Anchor Bay Entertainment has picked up U.S. distribution rights to “Altitude,” the supernatural thriller directed by comics artist Kaare Andrews.

“Montpensier,” which screened in competition, is a period costume drama based on the French novel of the same name. The dramatic love story is about a young aristocrat woman who is set to marry the prince, yet her heart belongs to one of the kingdom’s warriors.
“Kaboom,” which screened out of competition, is described as a sex-drenched comical thriller about an 18 year old who stumbles upon a conspiracy in an idyllic seaside town.
“We Are,” a Director’s Fortnight film, is about a cannibal family who lose their patriarch. Since he was the one who provided their victims, the rest of them must figure out how to survive on their own.
“Gods,” directed by Xavier Beauvois, is about a group of French Christian monks co-existing peacefully with their Muslim brothers high in the mountains of the Maghreb. When violence and terror slowly encroach the region, the monks resolve to stay, whatever the cost.
“Altitude” will be released via the Anchor Bay Films label and the deal also includes distribution in the U.K., Australia and New Zealand.

The director, repped by Pacific Artists Management and Aperture Entertainment, is best known for his comic book work for Marvel Comics and is developing “The Hunted” for Gale Anne Hurd.
