Southern Italy will be the site of the Salento Fear Fest, a new film festival focusing on productions in the horror, thriller, and science fiction genres.
Salento, located in Apulia, the heel of Italy’s boot-shaped peninsula, will host the annual event June 5-10. Candidates for the festival’s top prize — which organizers are calling the “Salento Fear Award” — will be announced April 30. The deadline for entries is Jan. 31.
Other awards on tap include prizes for best short film, director, cinematography, makeup, actor and actress.
The event joins an increasingly crowded Italian film festival schedule, which includes major festivals in Venice, Rome and Turin along with a host of smaller festivals including Sicily’s well-established Taormina Film Festival, which also takes place in June.
