TORONTO — Popular Quebec animation Web site “Tetes a Claques” has signed a distribution deal with the producers of Montreal’s Just For Laughs festival.
A Just for Laughs spokesman on Friday said her company will distribute comedy clips to international broadcasters from “Tetes a Claques,” which translates as “A Face To Slap” and enjoys 250,000 hits daily.
The comedy site is the brainchild of Quebec animator Michel Beaudet, who last August began streaming computer-generated cartoons from his suburban Montreal basement apartment. Each sketch features Beaudet’s own moving eyes and lips overlaid on cartoon faces, with the Quebec artist voicing all dialogue.
The “Tetes a Claques” sketches have become popular in Quebec, in French-speaking European markets and even among Quebec politicians who are often the subject of Beaudet’s comedy.
Just For Laughs will begin shopping the comedy clips to international broadcasters at MIPTV in Cannes.
Beaudet’s partnership with Just For Laughs will include a DVD release next Christmas as well as clips offered for the iPod and cell phone platforms.
