Komixx Entertainment has picked up worldwide film and TV rights to the teen book franchise Itch, written by British radio presenter Simon Mayo.
Komixx will develop the series for multiple platforms through Random House Children’s Screen Entertainment (RHCSE), Komixx’s joint venture with publishing giant Random House.
The first two Itch novels, released in 2012 and 2013, were best-sellers for Random House in Britain and the U.S. A third installment, Itchcraft, is due this year.
The stories feature Itchingham Lofte, a 14-year-old boy who discovers a previously unknown chemical element. In a series of adventures, he tries to track down all the elements of the periodic table as he tried to save the world from sinister scientists.
RHCSE is looking to develop the series for multiple platforms.
“Simon’s main character, Itchingham, is terrific,” said Andrew Cole-Bulgin, joint president and head of film and TV at Komixx Entertainment. “The strength of the characters and their appeal meant that we could envisage a digital transmedia property, giving us a very real chance to extend the story experience.”

Simon Mayo commented: “I’m way too excited for a man of my age. I always hoped Itch might find his way to a company who got it and who could visualize it the way I do. And now I have! This element hunt is going global.”
