A portion of Pacific Coast Highway near Palisades Park was shut down Sunday afternoon due to a man who had been threatening to jump off a cliff, according to media and eyewitness reports.

The man reportedly began threatening to jump since at around 12:45 p.m. He also was throwing rocks from the bluffs.
The McClure tunnel, which is located at the end of the 10 freeway, had been closed to traffic heading in both directions, causing a jam near Santa Monica and Sunset Boulevards in Pacific Palisades.

Several eyewitnesses who got caught in the gridlock posted photos of the man and the surrounding activity on Twitter.

L.A.-based news radio station KNX 1070 reported just after 4 p.m. Sunday that the tunnel had been reopened, though traffic was still heavy. The station cited “police activity” as the reason for the closure.
The city of Santa Monica also tweeted the news about the reopening.

It’s unclear how the situation was resolved.
