NEW YORK — Lil Jon and the Orchard have announced a content partnership deal, which includes brand marketing and A&R direction. The move follows the Orchard’s June purchased TVT Records, where Lil Jon was previously signed.
“I walked into the Orchard and came away with the sweet taste of freedom,” Lil Jon said. “Others talk, the Orchard does. I expect to do great things with them, and look forward to my future.”
Lil Jon recently withdrew his multimillion-dollar objection to the TVT sale proceedings and agreed to TVT’s transfer of his artist agreement to the Orchard. In turn, the Orchard has released Lil Jon from all future obligations under his previous TVT contract and agreed to give him the rights to his master recordings for “Crunk Rock.”
While the project will not released via the Orchard, a digital reissue of the MC/producer’s back catalog, which the company now owns, will be released in the future. No release dates have been set for either “Crunk Rock” or the digital music.
Meanwhile, Lil Jon will contribute to the Orchard’s Brand Entertainment group by working with agencies to develop lifestyle-oriented marketing and promotion programs. The MC/producer will also offer A&R and production support to The Orchard’s artists and labels.
Lil Jon’s last album, 2004’s “Crunk Juice,” has sold 2.5 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
