Jason Constantine has been upped to president of acquisitions and co-productions at Lionsgate’s motion picture group.
Constantine, previously executive vp acquisitions and co-productions, will continue to oversee the tracking and acquisition of theatrical films for Lionsgate, play an instrumental role in the creative oversight of prebuy projects in development, production and postproduction, and manage the day-to-day operations of the acquisition team. He has been heading this area since late 2007, when former acquisitions and co-production president Peter Block left the company.
“Jason has a remarkable understanding of projects that play to our strengths as a brand and generate uncommonly good movies,” said Lionsgate co-COO and motion picture group president Joe Drake, to whom Constantine will report.
An eight-year Lionsgate veteran, Constantine has played a key role in the acquisition of such projects as the “Saw” franchise, “Crash,” “Away From Her” and “The Descent.”
Prior to his work as an acquisitions executive, Constantine worked in production on studio and independent feature films. Before joining Lionsgate, he was director of acquisitions at Trimark Pictures.
Recent Lionsgate acquisitions include “Conan the Barbarian,” a potential franchise slated for 2009 release; and “Transporter 3,” starring Jason Statham.
