LONDON — Liverpool, the northern English city which was the birthplace of the Beatles, has been chosen to host the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards, organizers said Wednesday.
The 15th annual event will take place at the Echo Arena on Nov. 6, 2008.
It will be the third time the event has been held in Britain, following London in 1996 and Edinburgh in 2003.
“It is fantastic to be back in the U.K., and it is only natural that Liverpool should host the 15th annual Europe Music Awards,” Richard Godfrey, senior vp content and music at MTV Networks International and executive producer, said. “Not only is it the European Capital of Culture next year, but the influence of its rich music heritage is still felt today.”
MTV’s flagship 2007 European music awards event will take place Thursday in Munich.
