HONG KONG — Las Vegas Sands Corp. has inked a deal with LodgeNet Entertainment Corp. to provide in-room guest entertainment for its flagship Venetian Macao Resort Hotel, still under construction, as well as the Sands Macao located in the Special Administrative Region that is poised to make China the world’s second-largest gaming jurisdiction.
The deal was announced Tuesday and marks LodgeNet’s first entry into Asia’s growing hospitality industry.
“We are extremely pleased to have been chosen by the Las Vegas Sands as their inaugural and sole interactive media partner,” LodgeNet president and CEO Scott C. Petersen said. “With our expertise and resources, LodgeNet is uniquely positioned to deliver the best in-room interactive experience to meet the needs of the brand’s ambitious vision and growth schedule.”
LodgeNet will provide interactive services including on-demand film and television programming to the Venetian’s 3,000 rooms and the 200-plus at the Sands. The company also provides games, music, information and high-speed Internet for the rooms.
“Demand for hotel rooms with five-star amenities is growing at a significant rate in China,” Petersen said. And with the upcoming Beijing Summer Olympic Games in 2008 and a growing tourism market, the 125 million visitors to China in 2006 will only increase.
Following the opening of the Sands in 2004 and the Wynn Macao in 2006, gaming revenues from Macao overtook those of the Las Vegas strip. Macao is the only part of China where casino gambling is legal.
LVS has big plans for the Cotai Strip in Macao, on which the Ventian Macao is located, with plans to build another 20,000 hotel rooms over the next three years and they are in discussions with LodgeNet to create and implement in-room entertainment for these new developments.
