Michael Scagluso, a former studio sales executive with Universal Pictures and Columbia Pictures, died Wednesday at his home in Commack, New York, his family said. He was 90.
The first son of five children of Italian immigrants, Scagluso was born on May 1, 1929, in Long Island City, New York. He attended Newtown High School and started at Universal Pictures in 1950 in the mail room but was drafted that year. He served in the U.S. Army’s 4th Infantry Division stationed in Germany.
Back home, Scagluso returned to Universal and was promoted to salesman. He left in 1969 to join National General Pictures, where he rose to become assistant to the general sales manager, then moved to Columbia in 1978 as Eastern Division sales manager. He exited a decade later as vp sales.
Survivors include his children Michael, Frank, Joseph and Jeanne and 12 grandchildren. A Mass is set for 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Parish of the Holy Cross in Nesconset, New York.
