NEW YORK — Producer David Lang has been promoted to president of MindShare Entertainment in a move the media agency said signals the growing role that branded entertainment and other forms of intellectual property will play in its long-term development.
“We’re increasing David’s overall role at the agency to show that content development is going to become a cornerstone of all MindShare activities in the future,” MindShare North America CEO Scott Neslund said.
Lang also has been named to the agency’s North American management committee. In addition, MindShare senior partner and strategic planning director Steven Piluso will join Lang’s team in the new position of director of content strategy; MindShare Entertainment producer Gregory Manago will be upped to supervising producer and freelance producer; and Lindsay Gravin will join the unit as producer.
“David and his team have provided breakthrough creative entertainment solutions for our clients at a level of quality that has become the industry standard,” said Peter Tortorici, president of GroupM Entertainment, a division of MindShare parent company GroupM. “Their enhanced capabilities will ensure that they will maintain and exceed their own high standards.”
Tortorici served as president of MindShare Entertainment from 2003-2005 until he was promoted to president of GroupM Entertainment and hired Lang as director of programming. Both MindShare and GroupM are owned by WPP.
During Lang’s tenure, MindShare Entertainment has produced “In the Motherhood,” a Web series starring Leah Remini, for Sprint and Unilever’s Suave brand; “The Rookie,” a Web series inspired by Fox’s “24,” for Unilever’s Degree deodorant; a series of webisodes starring Felicity Huffman and directed by Penny Marshall for Unilever’s Dove Calming Night; and a primetime TV special, “Exposing the Order of the Serpentine,” for Unilever’s Axe that aired on Spike.
Before joining MindShare in March 2005, Lang worked as senior vp development and production at Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video and as a producer on “The Rosie O’Donnell Show,” for which he won an Emmy. He also worked at Al Burton Prods. as a development consultant and director of communications.
