PIFF PICKS DATES
The 2009 edition of the Pusan International Film Festival will take place Oct. 8-18 in Busan, South Korea, organizers said Friday as they announced deadlines for submissions. PIFF’s 14th edition will again host sideline events including the Asian Cinema Fund, the Asian Network of Documentary Fund, the Asian Film Academy and the Pusan Promotion Plan. Organizers said they will accept competition short film submissions postmarked by June 30 and feature and documentary submissions postmarked by July 30.
Anchor Bay has acquired all rights to “Not Forgotten,” a religious thriller that played last month at the Slamdance Film Festival. Simon Baker and Paz Vega star in the pic and Myriad Pictures produced. Anchor Bay will distribute the film in limited theatrical release and make a big DVD push.
CINEQUEST IN ‘WAKE’
The world premiere of Ellie Kanner’s “Wake” will serve as the opening-night film at this year’s Cinequest Film Festival, which runs Feb. 25- March 8 in San Jose, Calif.
Outfest’s Fusion 2009: The Sixth annual Los Angeles LGBT People of Color Film Festival will kick off March 6. The three-day event closes with Nick Oceano’s “Pedro,” a biopic written by Oscar-nominated “Milk” screenwriter Dustin Lance Black about AIDS activist Pedro Zamora.
