Producer Steve Golan, the founder and CEO of Anonymous Content, will be presented with the Franklin J. Schaffner Alumni Medal on June 11 at the AFI Life Achievement Award dinner honoring Michael Douglas at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City. The Schaffner Medal recognizes graduates of the AFI Conservatory.
KIELBASA READY
Jody Kielbasa has joined the University of Virginia’s College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences as director of the Virginia Film Festival, which runs Nov. 5-8 in Charlottesville, Va.
SMELZER AN ADVOcate
Mark Smelzer has been named publisher of the Advocate, the LGBT newsmagazine and Web site. Smelzer, who will be based in the Advocate’s Los Angeles offices, spent the past five years as publisher of the JCK Publishing Group and before that was associate publisher of Variety.
POWER UP BOOSTS
Power Up, founded in 2000 to promote gay women in the entertainment industry, is adding men to its honorary board of directors. Joining are “Milk” screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, filmmaker Q. Allan Brocka, producer Bruce Cohen, Indie PR president Jim Dobson, Showtime’s Robert Greenblatt, HBO’s Michael Lombardo and actor-director Peter Paige.
