CBS Television Distribution has renewed its top-ranked game shows “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy!” for two more years.
Also, Sony Pictures Television has added markets for its upcoming court show “Judge David Young,” bringing the total clearance to 75% of the U.S. for its fall 2007 launch.
CBS Television Distribution has renewed the SPT-produced “Wheel” and “Jeopardy!” through the 2011-12 season in about one-third of the country, adding two years to the shows’ most recent renewals. Stations renewing the shows represent such groups as ABC, CBS, Post-Newsweek, Hearst-Argyle and Sinclair.
Among the stations are ABC’s WABC New York, KABC Los Angeles, WLS Chicago, WPVI Philadelphia, KGO San Francisco, KTRK Raleigh-Durham, N.C., and KFSN Fresno, Calif.; CBS’ KTVT Dallas and WSBK Boston; and Post-Newsweek’s WDIV Detroit and WPLG Miami.
“These new sales reflect what the ratings prove every week — ‘Wheel of Fortune’ and ‘Jeopardy!’ are two of the most valuable properties in syndication,” CBS Television Distribution CEO Roger King said. “After more than 20 years, these are still two of the highest-rated shows in syndication, and station demand for them remains high.”
“Wheel,” the No. 1 show in syndication, is averaging an 8.3 household rating through Dec. 17, while “Jeopardy!” is averaging a 6.5, making it the No. 3 show in syndication overall. “Wheel” is in its 24th season; “Jeopardy!” is in its 23rd.
“Thanks to a superb partnership between Sony, King World and the wonderfully talented (executive producer) Harry Friedman, stations can look forward to several more years of America’s favorite game shows,” SPT president Steve Mosko said. “And with advances like our recent move to high-definition, viewers will enjoy the best possible viewing experience.”
“Wheel” and “Jeopardy!” are distributed domestically by King World Prods. and internationally by CBS Paramount International Television, which are part of CBS Television Distribution.
Meanwhile, SPT has cleared “Judge David Young” on additional stations from such groups as Lin, Pegasus, Meredith, Raycom and Grant.
The half-hour strip is presided over by Young, circuit court judge in Miami-Dade County who is known for giving jail time to two drunken America West pilots. He will continue in his current position until stepping down next year to host the show.
“The continued sales momentum for ‘Judge David Young’ is a reflection of how well he is being received in the marketplace,” SPT president of distribution John Weiser said.
