NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke’s compensation for 2016 amounted to $46.1 million, up 37 percent compared with $33.7 million in 2015 and $33.9 million in 2014, according to a regulatory filing from media, cable and technology company Comcast, which owns the entertainment company.
Burke last year received a base salary of $2.8 million, and earned on top of that $5.3 million in stock awards, and another $15.3 million in option awards. His total compensation also included $9.9 million in non-equity incentives, $8.5 million in deferred compensation and $4.1 million in “other compensation,” which includes a performance-related bonus.
Burke’s employment contract with NBC Universal is set to run to Aug. 2020.
Comcast chairman and CEO Brian Roberts’ pay was also disclosed in the filing, as he earned $32.9 million in total compensation, down from $36.2 million in 2015 and $33.0 million in 2014.
Shares of Comcast rose about 22 percent in 2016. The media giant in its SEC filing indicated Burke “successfully managed” NBC Universal, with its revenue jumping 11 percent to $31.6 billion last year on the strength of its programming content and theme park businesses.
“The NBC network continued its turnaround from having once been the fourth-ranked to the top-ranked broadcast network for the past three seasons among adults 18-49, our filmed entertainment business performed exceptionally well, with two hits, the Secret Life of Pets and Sing, laying the groundwork for future franchises,” Comcast said in its proxy statement.
NBC Universal operates a stable of cable networks, the NBC and Telemundo networks, a TV production studio, TV stations, Universal Pictures and Universal Parks and Resorts.
