TORONTO — Neil Young will not give a free outdoor concert at the Toronto International Film Festival after all. The Canadian rock legend was set to perform to help promote Jonathan Demme’s new concert film, “The Neil Young Trunk Show.”
The festival offered no reason for the no-show Thursday. And a spokesman for the indie film added Young, long known as an eccentric and at times grumpy artist, never fully confirmed his trek to Toronto in the first place.
Young was to perform Monday night in Toronto’s Yonge and Dundas Square after a screening of Demme’s film.
Toronto festival organizers hope to announce a replacement act to perform Monday as the screening of “The Neil Young Trunk Show” goes ahead.
Young was last at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2003 for the world premiere of his film “Greendale.”
