VOD webcaster ReelTime.com on Monday struck an agreement with Nelvana for the VOD rights to a selection of the Canadian cartoon producer’s programming.
The deal, unveiled at NATPE, is the latest for Nelvana as it continues to find new online venues to sell its product directly to consumers, said Doug Murphy, president of Nelvana Enterprises, the cartoon producer’s distribution arm.
“Our core business is making great new shows, selling to broadcasters, doing VOD deals and launching franchises,” he said. “But we also explore opportunities in the direct-to-consumer broadband video world.”
The latest agreement will see ReelTime acquire such Nelvana titles as “Jacob Two-Two,” “Rupert,” “My Dad the Rock Star” and “Flying Rhino Junior High” and market them to consumers via a monthly subscription model.
Earlier this month, Nelvana said that about 650 library episodes will be available to consumers via the U.K.-based Coolroom download store.
