Netflix has added another key position as it expands its international production operation, naming former Constantin Film executive Sasha Bühler to the position of director of original film for Germany, France and Nordics.
Bühler joins Netflix’s London-based international film team, headed up by David Kosse, vp international original film. The division oversees the streamer’s international feature production and acquisitions, supplying non-English language titles for Netflix’s global subscriber base.
Bühler, who headed up acquisitions and international co-productions at German mini-major Constantin, will begin at Netflix in December, joining a group that includes manager of international film Mike Wheet; Teresa Moneo, who will run Netflix’s international original film business for Spain and Italy; and Claire Willats, who will focus on non-English language film acquisitions.
Bühler’s hire is a further sign that Netflix is bulking up its international features slate, following a strategy similar to what it took with foreign-language series. Netflix’s international shows —such as Danish dystopian drama The Rain, Spanish thriller Money Heist and German mystery drama Dark — have proved globally successful for the streaming giant.
Netflix is expected to announce its first foreign-language original production soon.
