News Corp. chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch is planning to fly to London Saturday to tackle the media giant’s phone hacking crisis and its continuing fallout, sources on Friday confirmed a report by the Financial Times.
The 80-year-old Murdoch has spent recent days in Sun Valley to attend the annual Allen & Co. gathering of media and tech moguls, joined by Joel Klein, who was picked to advise the mogul on the affair, and other company executives. But son James Murdoch stayed in London to deal with the issue.
It was not immediately clear what Murdoch senior would focus on in London.
Beyond dealing with the internal and public fallout from the scandal, Murdoch also has to deal with News Corp.’s bid to take full control of BSkyB, which is expected to get delayed until the fall.
Also, with Sunday’s final issue of the News of the World, observers expect News Corp. to launch a Sunday edition of The Sun in the near future.
