Mystery of ‘Kyle’ good for ABC Family
The mysterious Kyle and his missing belly button will be back for another season on ABC Family. The cable network has greenlighted a third season of “Kyle XY,” ordering 10 new episodes from ABC Studios. A start date has not been determined because the series is in production on the back-10 episodes of Season 2. “Kyle XY” was created by Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber and is executive produced by Chris Bender and J.C. Spink through Benderspink, Eric Tuchman and David Himmelfarb.
Latifah stops in ‘Vegas’
Queen Latifah will make a cameo appearance in Fox’s “What Happens in Vegas … ,” starring Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz. What that cameo will be, however, is being kept under wraps. The romantic comedy revolves around two people (Kutcher and Diaz) who discover after a night of debauchery in Vegas that they’ve gotten married, with one of them hitting a jackpot after playing the other’s quarter.
East coasts to TWC post
Ellen East has been named executive vp corporate communications at Time Warner Cable, replacing Lynn Yaeger, who has said that she will retire at year’s end. In her new role, East will oversee the corporate communications and public affairs teams and guide the regional and divisional public affairs officers on various issues. She will be based out of the company’s New York headquarters, reporting to president and CEO Glenn Britt.
A ‘Valentine’ for ThinkFilm, Cianfrance
NEW YORK — ThinkFilm is reteaming with “Half Nelson” producers Silverwood Films and Hunting Lane Films for Derek Cianfrance’s romantic drama “Blue Valentine.” ThinkFilm will finance, distribute and handle international sales on the project. Principal photography is slated to begin in February. ThinkFilm’s Mark Urman, Randy Manis and Ben Stambler negotiated the deal with Endeavor Independent.
Imax has lease on restatements
Imax is planning to restate its 2006 financial results after it found errors in the way it handled real estate leases, which will lead to a charge of $5.5 million-$6.5 million. The company looked at real estate leases for its theaters and corporate facilities during the 1997-2002 period.
Venice’s new Palazzo lands key funding
ROME — The final remaining obstacle blocking the start of construction for Venice’s new Palazzo del Cinema was removed after the government’s inter-ministerial Committee for Economic Programs gave a thumbs up to the budget request of €20 million ($28.2 million) required to start the project. The approved funds will be enough to start work and will represent the bulk of the national government’s contribution to the €77 million ($108.6 million) project. The rest is expected to come from regional and municipal government funds and private sources.
